Q. Lens

Hello everyone!
I am brand new to this forum and would like some advice. I just sold all my Nikon gear and lenses to obtain a Canon 1D- Mark II 8.2 MP and a 50mm usm f/1.4 lens. What other lens that works well with this camera would you recommend? I am new to canon glass as well. I need a good overall lens that will cover portraits to lanscapes under $500 U.S.D. even non canon -Sigma, Tamaron I need some help I do pro work for the newspaper and assignment work of zoo's and such and am in a bind. Thanks Len
