Thanks Phil. I appreciate the comments and even more so enjoy the reference to Vũng Tàu, a place tucked far back in my thoughts. Your reference makes perfect sense to me. Been there; done that! I get it: give birds fermented berries and they go dien cai dau. --best to you, Jan

Another great shot, Jan! If you really want to see the liquored up birds, check out Cedar Waxwings around Hollys and other berry producers. Looks like a PFC in a Vung Tao bar on a two-day pass! Keep up the good work. Phil

Another nice shot of the bird eating cake ---They get to Party at your place a lot:))
When the berries in our yard are ripe the birds actually get sort of drunk and fly into our windows a lot which hurts them sometimes ....but these guys in your yard get a real sugar high and never leave :)) Nice focus, and great DOF !!
All Of the Best, Michele~

Thanks, Shirley. Suet cakes are made from animal fat (usually beef) and other ingredients to provide nutrition and energy to birds. There are many recipes and different ingredients that attract different kinds of birds but often you find it to contain peanut butter, bits of fruit, grains and seeds, etc. The suet cake is made to hold its shape even in warmer weather and often hung in a basket by a chain so that the birds can eat the cake a little bit at a time through the holes in the basket. More about them can be found at: http://www.bcpl.net/~tross/by/suet.html
