Thanks for the settings explanation Arthur. My D200 seems to do pretty well with snow/white on white, in the matrix metering mode and zero compensation. (my last post was set like that) Next time I'm out shooting some Gulls in the snow, I'll try some shots Center Weighted with +1 and compare the results. Thanks again. Andre

Thanks Andre, I shoot with Center Weighted Average exposure metering, add +1 exposure compensation (for the snow) and always shoot in raw which allows more room for adjustments.

Hi Arthur, This is pretty well perfect as near as I can tell. The all important eye contact is supurb, and you have so many great shades of white and light grey without a single hint of any blowout. It is so easy to get it wrong with white on white. Great job! Andre

wow what a wonderful capture Arthur, very nice sharpness and feather detail, the seperation of the owl from the snowy background is perfect, I have never had an attempt at one of these beautys, but I sure this is about as good as it gets.. !!
