About After my first camera, a kodak instamatic, I bought a used mirror reflex cameta, the Fuji ST701. It had a 50 mm lens and semi automatic exposure ( turn diafragm until analog needle points at zero mark.
Here one of my first experimental exposures. I ran around in the dark with a torch and paintend the image with light. The overexposed face at the left is me, in ~1978.
