Thank you, Taran, for your very professional critique! You are right about the lense, but for the time being I've got to use what I have, These lenses tend to be expensive, you know?! What I did NOT do here, I did not use a tripod and the hands are no longer so sure, so missed the point.

In a shot like this its tough to not want to share, but discretion and patience are a large part of shooting, and you may have jumped the gun on this one, just a little bit.

Its a wonderful photo yes, but there is only one cardinal rule for insect macro photos, the eye must be in focus. Here we have a great photo in every respect, color, form, lines, etc. but the eye of the dragonfly is OOF. If you really want to improve your dragonfly photos, you will need to do 2 things, 1) Take thousands of photos 2) perfect your macro technique to where you have the insects eye always in focus.

I use dedicated macro lenses, so I have a bit of an advantage over the a80 you used here :), but your portfolio is so good I think the next step for you might be a macro lens, as clearly you have a fondness for flowers and florals/plants. I think you would be rewarded by such a lens. Thanks for sharing.

Such magnificent colors. This is so impressive. Not only did you get close to the dragonfly, but the shot is artfully composed amd perfectly exposed. Excellent.
