Hi, Molly,
Beautiful owl and you're right about the B&W. The focus seems very soft. What brand lens is this? Were you at the 300mm mark with it? Or is it just the scan? Or intentional and I've missed the point?

I would like to see the contrast a little richer and a non-centered subject, but I'm guessing the cropping removed some distraction off to the side. Besides, these are just personal preferences.
