This guy flew in and landed on the other other side of the van into which I was loading my camera and tripod. I pulled the gear back out and set up for the photo. The eagle was looking every which way, so whenever it looked away I would take a step closer. I would estimate I was about 15 feet away when this image was taken.
I enjoy this photo because the eagle has an awesome pose; very nonchalant eventhough it just landed by your car. I noticed that you liked to take pictures of eagles, and I would appreciate some information with respect to lenses that are appropriate for birds of prey. Ive tried shooting a condor with a 300mm in the Colca Canyon,Peru, but I need more magnification. Please contact me at creusche@yahoo.com,your help is appreciated.
Tom...I like this image for a few reasons. First, the exposure is right on. The white is white and there is enough detail in the shadows to make the image interesting. Second, you use of DOF is on the money. The foreground and subject in focus and the background blurred...nice job! Lastly, the subject is looking into the frame as opposed to looking out or falling off the end of the image. The placement of the subject towards the right side of the frame is perfect.
