Abril 2006. The bridge finally colapsed and as you see in the picture is totally broken in pieces...now they have to build a new one..it will take for sure 2 more years. Mean while the transit to airport, seaport and city of La Guaira plus all the neighborhood, is a total disaster taking aproximately 2 hours or more to get down while it used to be half an hour at the most.

Hi Mrinmoy...here it is a new picture which I believe is the one you are asking. I did not take it because you can not drive any more through that road.It was taken by some reporters (newspapers). Hope you find it interesting. The government will have to build a new bridge which will take at least 2 years.Meanwhile we have to drive to La Guaira through small and very old roads (1900's..).

You can see the curve on the bridge.... |

Now it is not any more safe or unsafe....they closed the bridge and the whole highway becoming one of the worst things happened to us after the earthquake some 50 years ago....!!! the capital city is now uncomunicated with our main international airport and sea port...now we have to drive through a mountain road built at the begginig of last century (in the 1900's...)and it may take as minimum of 2 to 3,4 or 5 hours driving really slowly...compared with 15 to 20 minutes while using the highway....!!!!

I don't think I's feel safe driving across this. Hopefully, they's get it fixed properly. Your shot really shows well what your About explains. Mary

Unfortunately we had this morning the worst of the news....the bridge collapsed and has been closed until further advice. No trafic at all is allowed through the highway. Even worse..I am right now in the island of margarita and was supposed to fly tomorrow and go to the city and now I will have to find out how to get there... Maybe if you use the web page that I put in my previous comment you can find some more pictures there. Thanks for viewing my picture.

Alberto nice pic with nice description. I wonder if you could take the shot from the angle where the second picture (after the bridge was first built) was taken.

For those more interested in the engineering process this is a pciture when the bridge was fully straight and with no problems. You can noticed there was not any bend on it. The mountain from left side has been moving because of water since some 3 to 4 years and much more heavily in the last few months. Officials in charge have been contracting with some brazilian companies to try to recover the horizontality of it.

The Bridge as it used to be when first built. |
