About	This seal had 'beached' - merely to rest for a couple of days and then went back into the sea. Unbelievable size. this was taken on the beach at Hermanus.

Thanks for your comment Steve - and the interesting observation. :) I hear what you say.... I have shots of the seal on it's own but would have then lots the size comparison issue. Have to confess that at this stage I was taking the shots while in tears -thinking it had 'beached' as a whale does - to die - only to learn later that they do in fact do this 'for fun'. Not long after this a woman had her nose bitten off by a seal on one of our beaches - guess we should not have got that close either.

A really nicely composed photo, Shirley. The diagonal of the woman and the seal is great. And the depth of field is terrific. One very minor change I would make would be to somehow cover up the woman's (how to put this delicately ... I guess I can't) butt crack. As I see it, the seal and background coloring is muted so the stark black and white of the photographer draws my eye to her and the woman's lower back stands out because it's framed by the blouse and pants.
What an incredible look of peace on the seal's face! It's priceless.
