A word of advice to those living in the northern hemisphere: don't go to a conservatory after 2:30 p.m. in the winter! There will be no light! That was the situation I found myself in, but it took me an hour to drive there, so I took photos anyway! Most of them didn't turn out, but this one was 85% there. I upped the contrast and burned the busy background into oblivion in PS.
Shot on tripod with a +2 macro filter. Actual shutter was 2 seconds, actual aperture was f3.5
Thanks for the comments. :-) I wish it had more DOF too! As of this moment, I resolve to try and break my habit of throwing open the aperture to compensate for low light levels. I resolve to overcome my deep seated fears of using a flash!
Attached is an alternate version. It occurred when I was burning the background and a low wattage idea popped into my head. I like the space on the right, but are the blurs a little hokey? I'm inclined to think they are.
Becky, I feel your disappointment after all that driving and effort. Looking at the T-nail, i thought wow, nice to see an unusual flower composition, which I still like lots. Wish for a bit more DOF.
