AShley,

The lighting is very harsh, I know it's hard to get a good picture of an all black cat(I know because I have one). Also the flash has blown out the background screen. If you used a defuser on the light source or bouncded the flash it might come out better. Try making a relector out of a white form board and then use a house hold light as the source. Use the reflector as the light source by bouncing the light from the source onto the cat.
