City - Near Mianning State - SICHUAN Country - China
About
Sichuan province in southwest China is one of the more remote and less wealthy parts of China, but is arguably the most beautiful area of the country. The province has mountains towering over 6000 metres, lush forests, pandas, rivers, lakes and gorges, and loads of different nationalities amongst the population.
These Sichuan portraits were taken in south Sichuan, one of the less traveled parts of the province and in small villages that see very few foreigners. I’m traveling in those parts right now and was lucky enough to stop in a couple of places where I managed to photograph these people, who all belong to the Yi nationality, a group indigenous to Sichuan with a rather interesting history. Of greatest interest was their social system, which up until recent decades featured a caste and slave system, which as I understand and according to the museum records, was dismantled after the founding of the People’s Republic.
There were plenty of opportunities for me to take more interesting photos of other Yi people, but I squandered my time a bit and the opportunities evaporated quickly. On the upside, I have one more week here and hope to see more of the same sort of people and landscapes.
I met these sweet kids in their village and they agreed to let me take their photo.
Fantastic shot of children in their natural posing. I could feel the interaction betweein you and them in this picture. which is so delicate toughing moment you seized. I like B & W tone which is ofter superior as well serious than color one. Looks classic and historic. Thanks for your comments to my picture and significant suggestions. I will try. Thank you, James.
This is really a beautiful portrait of these two girls. The lighting is wonderful and their open warm expresions very inviting. Love the Mickey shirt. Alison
