Thanks for the input, Steve. It is a good interpretation - more detailed, buoyant and less moody. Eb

Really neat shot, Eb. The composition, framing with the driftwood, works beautifully. My personal preference would be to have the lightness and contrast altered as below. But it is just a preference. Steve

Love it. Love the texture of the wood and the way the lack shows thru the opening. Great job. Klaus

You are right John, I thought about the water movement after I posted my reply. It would likely be a smoothening effect if there are enough exposures. What I am going to do is select the sky/lake area and experiment with a graduated blue filter layer. That should darken the lake area a bit too and force me to learn more PS. I'll post the results and thanks! Eb

Eb I guess I was thinking that if you filled in the sky, then you could use PS's shadow/highlight tool and that maybe the water would need to be dropped a bit. I am probably going farther than it neds. And yes, the HD option would do well as long as nothing moves - water waves? no problems with taking time. JB

Thanks for the thoughts, John. I am not sure fill flash would have given me the wood textures, since they were produced by direct sun from the right and indirect sky light. Perhaps I would try making multiple exposures and going for a HD image in PS - if can get this photo again. The simplest solution is, as you suggest, to insert a blue sky. Why are you suggesting further darkening of the water? John, I really appreciate the time you took to help with this image. Eb

Eb While I like this shot, that pieve of bright sky just keeps draging my eye away from the great wood textures. I did a similar piece like this in Canada and found the best result to set the camera to manual exposure and expose for the scene behind the wood. Then use a fill flash to open up the shadow area. Depending on the contast difference the flash may flatten the wood texture too much. Alternatively, you could PS in a blue sky and darken that water and sky. A more time consuming way would be to use a reflector to open up the shadow. Great wood! - Cheers JB

Wonderful creation!!!Everything is flowing, the contorsions look like exercises in yoga. The texture is unbelievable and the patterns the envy of every artist. The little window towards the blue lake calms a bit the drama in the wood. Very well seen and processed! YT

Excellent textures in the driftwood, Eb, and I like your DOF to retain the focus to the water beyond. A very unique and effective presentation. Dave.
