About Series of 4x5 View Camera images from early 1970s. I scanned these old negatives at high dynamic range and attempted to reproduce the character of the original prints. It was much more challenging and time consuming than I had first assumed.

Thats a bummer Eb! This was a serious piece of equipment. "impecuniosity" - had to look it up in the dictionary! thanks for the English grammar lesson! I was in a similar predicament 20 years ago and had to sell all my darkroom equipment, including an expensive Durst colour enlarger and my motorbike - I'm still kicking myself! Regards.

Thanks for appreciating this series, Joggie. Alas, I parted with this camera and lenses in a fit of impecuniosity, many years ago. (I was no longer photographing.) A very dumb move, since I could hardly replace it at today's prices which would be close to $10,000 Canadian for a new kit.

Thanks for such a generous comment, Ina. I'm pleased with the scan quality of these large negative (4x5 in.) A view camera has a film back joined to the lens plate by leather bellows. You can move and tilt the back and front independently. The advantage is that one can shift the film plane to alter perspective and the plane of focus. This was a handy thing before one could adjust perspective in a computer. Of course PS has not yet figured out how to shift the focal plane. I am glad you asked that question and would be even happier if I still owned this camera.

Fantastic abstract Eb! Eye-catching colors and great texture effect from the scan. It looks much like a gouache painting, actually it would be wonderful as a large print! I don't know anything about a View Camera, is it a medium format? Really beautiful detail, you have an amazing portfolio. Best regards, Ina

Hi Dave. This old buggy was old when I photographed it about 33 years ago! I would like to think that someone has restored it and it sits in a museum of fire fighting equipment.

A splendid abstraction, with just enough grounded textures to help us recognize it. yes!
