.......their own doing, there should be a their there!!....just re reading Hugo's comment, I took the gradient to be the varation in available light, I think it is very effective, good to see a critique that has a bit of 'uuumph' .....could have said 'well captured' and left it at that!!.......I'm rambling again, cheerio......great photo. cheers, david
.....well done Timothy, this is pleasing indeed, I get frustrated by the volume of shots that do little or nothing to celebrate the human form other than to exploit it to no particular effect and then associate the result with the word 'art'.....your shot has nice lighting, shadows and symmetry and (for me)says things about the nervousness with which a young person may regard the society in which they find themselves through none of there own doing.....good work. cheers, david.
Hi Timothy, A very good portrait, and a strong yet introvert pose. The direct eye contact creates a nice contrast with the self aware pose.
The rather severe gradient doens't quite work for me, though. To me, it gives the impression you tried to enforce an additional atmosphere, which I believe isn't necessary. But that's probably because I don't understand the idea (or maybe even the need) behind it. I'd really like to see the original as comparison.
