Hi Kris, I really like the close up, portrait type of apprach to this wildlife photo. Very well done, and amazing you managed to capture this with only a 55mm lens! (or was this shot taken in a zoo?) The sharpness and details are pretty spectacular too.
As to the composition, I think there's a slight unbalance. My eye keeps searching for the ears, and I believe there's too much of his lower body in the photo. On the other hand, for such a close up type of shot, the inclusion of a bit of background in the top left corner is a bit of a disturbing element, IMO. Not sure how you could've prevented that, unless you had managed to zoom in even further, capturing only the eyes and the snout of the wolf without changing the aspect of the image. Per attached the version I have in mind.
Another, minor, thing I notice is the tone of the image. The colours and contrast seem a bit dull. Undoubtedly, that's also because of the overcast weather or bad lighting, but I think with a bit of level tweaking, you could give the tones that extra punch they need to really make this photo tick.
Nonetheless a very strong and well captured photo...
