About I got this shot from a kajak trip to Elkhorn Slough in Monterey County.
This species, the smallest one of the marine mammals of North America was down to less than 1000 animals worldwide and only 20 in California.
The California population increased to 2,400 in 1995 before mysteriously beginning to decline.
In my short trip to Moss Landing I saw at least 40 individuals gathering in a small area.
