About This is a very large Goanna or Lace Monitor. He came to beg food when we were having a picnic on the mountain. They can get quite aggressive when hungry or threatened and can run very fast. I know 'cos I was chased by a larger one the week before at the same spot while trying to get a photo. Fortunately she gave up and went back to fighting the bush turkeys for the scraps left by other picnicers. I came back and resumed my spot on TOP of the table and decided to forget about photos that day.

Wow.
There are some really amazing lizard that are local to Australia.
Would love to visit just to see some of the wildlife.

A great image, Ann! These things freak me out!

We got close to one on a recent visit to the national park at Stockton Beach, near Newcastle! It would not worry me if I never saw another one! LOL
