He was just standing there alone & still. the background was a murky brown color of the water which I just replaced with the yellow of his eyes and one of the lighter pink colors of his feather.
Currently I am not taking many photos at all. But I have many thousands of stored slide & prints I have taken over the years. I cant keep up with my own ideas for pictures and so I am vastly behind on scanning & posting, manipulating and taking more pictures.

Hi Sandra, hope you're well.

Love this image the colour is amazing, how did you get this bird to stand still for you? Amazing work. really cool.

In answer to your question about the photo of my wife Nicola and well spotted by the way. you're the only person who spotted the eyebrows, you have a good eye for detail xx.

The shot was overexposed in the camera, used two flash units left and right, one with an umbrella, the other with a soft box. Also overexposed more in Photoshop to really bleach the face. I copied the image twice to give three layers in total. one layer (the original background)left it alone. The second layer I gave a gaussian blur, adjust to your own taste and i reduced the opacity to 74%. The third layer i multiplied and also reduced the opacity to 74%. I blended the layers visible and adjusted the overall contrast and brightness to give the desired effect of diffusion. The Beauty spot was air brushed for that finishing touch and no one believes it's my wife, even my wife doesn't believe it's her.

How many photo's do you take a day, don't think I can keep up with you? Talk soon.

Rick.

I like the composition. The background color really enhances the birds form and color.
