Oh yes, I like this kind of "mental focusing" through blurring any unnimportant parts very much, because it acts like a definition of the object of photography, enhancing one's attention to a few important details.

As about those appointments, well, you got it exactly right my friend!

Nick, it's a luck that you don't use PS and its sharpening tools: I like a so quick progression from neat to blurred that I see in most of your floral photos.
