About
(This is a repost with a different crop and color profile) This is T.J, He’s 19 and he’s getting married despite the bride’s father’s lack of enthusiasm (pictured in the upper right of the frame) He’s from a small town in mid Michigan and despite living in poverty; he scraped up enough money to take his bride to Ohio and make her his wife. For about $20 or so you can get legally married complete with a marriage certificate, for another $20 or so, you can have a religious ceremony on the lawn outside the courthouse, he bought both. That white grocery bag is his luggage, a friend loaned him the suit he’s wearing, and the box is a boutonnière. My objective for this shot was to capture the distance and tension between the groom and the father in law. This is a candid shot, taken in a hallway while he waits for the bride to get changed into her dress. He looked up at the camera just before I tripped the shutter.
