About A large military jet with 4 engines. Missed the dream shot when it was between me and the sun (timing is everything) but still captured a decent silhouette. Armed Forces Day.

Wow Edward! I'm impressed. You're right, of course. My father was career Air Force and I've ridden on one of these bad boys. Cold . . . drafty . . . and you can see through cracks! LoL! Good call . . . and I appreciate the comment!

Doyle I <~~~~~

Great shot Doyle.

You might already know, but in case you don't, this is a C-17 Globemaster III.

As others have said, I really like the angle of this shot, as the sun spots on the lens and light reflecting off the flaps are what make the shot for me.

All the best,
Ed

Hugo:
Thanks. I appreciate the commentary and you have (as always) provided food for thought. You may be quite right about the "Dream" shot, but we will never know since it was not obtained. Could have, would have, and should have all belong in a theoretical world . . . we have what we have. Generally, I dislike the solar flares but do agree that they seem in place in this composition. Perhaps the artificially added flares just don't feel right and the natural ones, like in this shot, just feel appropriate. I definitely would have lost the flap reflection, a side effect of the silhouette I had in mind. I had not anticipated the flaps. I appreciate the comments very much and I also feel that this shot came out better than I had anticipated . . . partly for the reasons you have pointed out (Flares and reflection off flaps) and partly because the angle was more conducive to the image.

Doyle I <~-~-~

Hi Doyle, good silhouette for sure, and the reflection on the flaps in the sunlight creates a very strong contrast, fitting the thunderous fly by...

Not sure if the dream shot you had in mind would've actually worked out. I think it would remove two rather important features you managed to capture in this shot, and which create the "tension"; the reflection of the sun on the flaps and the solar flares, which I think are actually an addition here.

The dream shot would've probably been more grapic, but not necessarily stronger. I like this one, also because it ISN'T perfect. It invites to think about, which is in most cases more appealing than the clean, perfect photo.

Cheers,

Hugo

Silhouette is tack sharp. The plane contrasts well against a beautiful sky.
