Wow This one is fantastic. I was looking at Julie's profile and saw your link/comment on her gargoyle. These are so eerie, but fascinating at the same time. I love the composition and positioning. The view/DOF is fantastic:)

Hi Dave, looks like you had a much clearer day than I did while up there. This is a great shot. I took one of him as well but certainly not as good as your. All the best. Julie.

You went to Paris!!! Wow good for you. This is cool. The composition is facinating. I love how the DOF is concentrating on the gorgole and he is looking out over the city. A surreal feeling to it. A creative angle. I really like this as the tile is very accurate. Kelly

Hi Dave, You must have had a lovely vacation! I know this place because Rachel's children lived in Paris quite a few years & we visited them often, baby-sat their children & visited all over Paris. To get so close to this Gorgoyle & get this marvelous photo, almost all Paris included, you probably climbed high up. Well chosen for critique. Thank you for your coments on my recent photo & welcome home. Best regards, Rafi I attach my, much lesser version of one of these monsters, taken from the ground.

Great shot, Dave. I know you had a wonderful visit and amassed a huge number of images. Unfortunately, I won't get back there this year for my regular fix, and so it's good to see that everything is OK there. If you drop me a note at my email address (foto-art@comcast.net), I'll fill you in on what's happening with me.
All the best, --George

Hope you had a great trip to a very historic City. Must have been lots to see. This is a nice shot of the Eiffel Tower and it's surroundings. The Gargoyle sure makes the shot look dramatic. Nice perspective Dave. Very good dof.

Hi Dave, I wondered where you had gotten to.
An excellent first post from a trip of a lifetime! I am on the side of the people who think that the sky is just fine in this image. I'll tell you why... The gargoyle is a great subject and of course the beautiful city scape below is fabulous. Wonderful composition, by the way! I think having said all this, the sky is perfectly allright playing the second fiddle in this image. SSure, a dramatic sunset or forboding storm clouds might look great in there too, but the sort of neutral sky also serves the purpose of drawing us to the details of the city and the gargoyle. I like it the way it is.
Did you have to unravel any big mysteries at the Louvre while you were there? Did you visit Mary Magdelene under that inverted pyramid?
Andre

Oh Wow... I love gargoyles.. have one at home myself called gorgon, mines a little bit smaller than this though, but I believe he protects my place just as vigilantly... lol.
Love the way you have this gargoyle to the left of frame looking out over Paris... the angle is exceptional (& a tad scary for those of us afraid of heights.. lol) so 10/10 for bravery just snapping this.
Love how you have caught some of the famous landmarks & you have the eiffel tower perfectly positioned here also. Even the river below right... you truly have captured it all here.
I see some would have prefered the bright sunlight & although I could see that being a bonus I do not think the subdued lighting harms this at all... I think the bleakness of this shot works well to bring out a forboding atmosphere.
Paris must have been fabulous... would love a trip there myself sometime... & I bet Notre Dame was amazing.. thank you for sharing some of your holiday with us... looking forward to some more of your shots.
Keep well & bright Sue x

I agree with Miles. On the other hand you got lucky (or did you wait) for a boat to fill the water space. The perspective of the gargoyle makes it appear it is looking at the Tower and that adds to the image as well. Good luck and thanks for sharing. John B
