Thanks Paul! A re-look at the image should reveal that he's actually reading and wrapped up to stay dry. In an amazing twist of fate . . . I was concentrating on setting up the shot with the homes and didn't even realize he was there until I had no choice but to proceed with him in it! Still, he added some interest! :)

Thanks Brian . . . appreciated! Jim Budrakey was impressed with the 21 inch monitor. The 32 inch (depending on resolution) might be even better . . . but be careful -- TVs have notoriously poor resolution for photographic images from computers. I'd be interested in knowing how it looks since I have a Dinky (30inch) TV and have never viewed images on it with any luck . . . even from the Nikon. I very much appreciate your comments though!

Doyle! What an excellent seacost-haze image. The topper is the dude sleeping on the beach. (We used to post a lookout for beach patrol/police, as they'd kick us OFF the san diego beaches if they caught you sleeping).
Congrats on a well-deserved Staff Choice Award, man!

Millions for a house the size of an apartment where you can borrow a cup of sugar by handing it across the upstairs open windows. Not me. BTW . . . he's not sleeping on the beach, he's reading. I love the feedback on this image . . . it's so familiar to us it suprises me that anyone would find the beachfront propert unique. And thanks for the support . . . really!

Great job Doyle, love a good panorama. You and I are almost neighbors. I am in Torrance. I would like to invite you and your wife to visit our camera club when it starts up again in August. It is the South Bay Camera Club in Redondo Beach. I think the longish nikkor zooms, like the 70-300 and the 70-210 yeild some nice distortion free images at 70mm, you have done well to maximize the performance of the lens and turned a narrow landscape into a robust one. Great PP, I can't tell where you sitched it, and the evening colors (i.e. the purple in the sky) really set this piece off. Congrats on the front page.

Congrats for FP SC!...i like seeing the pano feature applied to varied shots and this be one of them!...the person sleeping on the beach makes it for me...LOL...just kidding, but does add a human element(and also noticed person sitting on the barrier)...the lilac tint of sky gives this a lazy hazy look to me...hope that makes some sense?...hate the electric poles and would never pay the scratch to live so close to my neighbor even if beachfront property! ;> ...looks seamless to me,but i don't know anything about doing that process...good work,Doyle regards, gayle

Thanks Sam! Very kind comments coming from an accomplished photographer like yourself! You will note that the pier shot (which I still say would have been world class) did NOT make it up. Just couldn't hold the camera steady enough in the pounding surf with the slow shutter speed required by the fog and the coming darkness . . . as well as a 300mm lens! I did nudge up the ISO to speed up the shutter speed a tad but ended up (predictably) with too much grain. I should have known it wouldn't be steady . . . but you HAVE to try! :P Still . . . the pano taken was rewarding in and of itself. Any photo shooting trip is a good trip!

Hi Doyle!!! I have to say, this is one of the best Pano's of a beach I have seen. Fantastic Camera control! I Love the somber mood the image portrays to me. The colors and saturation are spot on.
I had a peek at your wifes shot of you wading into waist deep water. You are Nuts!!! lol
When I was in Hawaii, I was walking on a reef in like calf deep water and I was more scared the a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs! WTG( way to go) WELL DESERVED Award!

Thanks so much for the comments Roger . . . Comments from you about panoramas are very valuable to me indeed! I don't think this is due to pollution because the air is quite clean due to the offshore breeze we enjoy. I think the setting sun had a lot to do with it as well as, likely, my inexperience. It's a lovely and unique view, however - and that's what I had hoped to capture.

I've been too busy for Usefilm the last couple of weeks, and missed this beautiful panorama or I would have commented earlier. So you have purple fog? We have pink skies over here in Japan. Could they both be due to pollution, I wonder? Long, really narrow panoramas like this require unusual subjects but you certainly found one here! Great stitching! That always impresses me because I understand you do it the hard way, by hand. Wow.

Rina! Thanks for commenting and "congratting" (tech. term I just made up) me on the award. I think the fog did most of the work making the buildings stand out. Still, the Southern California Beach community is quite unique. Incidentally . . . the Capt. B.B. McMacho term is NOT to be considered humerous . . . more of a journalistic term I have tried to get to catch on! :) The grandkids know me as "The King of Cool" . . . perhaps that might work. - Adore the Spidey series you did and haven't enjoyed that much humor in ages! :) Actually, he probably intended to keep dry (rolling fog, sand, etc.) more than to keep warm. The next morning we were stunned with a heat wave . . . but that night, in the dark and fog . . . my wife did get cold. . . of course, she was actually in the ocean too, though not waist deep like I was and being wet makes it seem cooler.
