Jessie: Yes, it does happen often. I was hoping to capture some brilliant sunset across the Pacific . . . but (like today) it was foggy. You just work with what you have! :)

Hugo: I have gone back to the image and adjusted (extremely easily) the pano . . . and the improvement is quite dramatic. Even so, I see it was given an SC today. Thanks so much for the tip . . . I won't forget it in the future. It's nice to know even recognized good shots can be improved! In my opinion, that's the real strength here on UF!

Hi Doyle,
I think you can change the hue without causing other issues. I think my first try would be using the hue / saturation tool in photoshop, and select the magenta levels to begin with, and desaturate those. If that doesn't quite do the trick, I would probably do the same with the reds....
Following my own advice, I tried this in PS myself; per attached...

Annemette: Funny you should mention that . . . this is where some of Baywatch shows were filmed. Farther down the beach the lifeguard boat is docked. I'll have to post a picture of a REAL lifeguard. :)

Thanks Hugo . . . great point. Didn't really see the lavender till you mentioned it so I'm glad you did. I'm not sure, though, what caused it. The fog did color itself to some extent as the sun set . . . but I don't recall it seeming unusual. Do you think it would be possible to adjust the hue of the entire scene without causing other issues? As it happens, the lifeguard stations are correct in the colors you see. I do know that much later . . . the fog colors were influenced by the sunset . . . though not obvious at any short range. Exposure settings changed rapidly as the sun dropped past a certain point and the encroaching darkness became evident. Thanks for the time you spend pointing out that which will one day (hopefully) become obvious to me, or better yet, instinctual. It's been quite helpful to me. :)

I love misty landscapes, also on a beach that reminds me of "Baywatch":-))The composition is excellent. All the best, Annemette

Hi Doyle, nice moody photo, it has something calm and tranquil about it, rahter peaceful. I think I'd ease down a bit on the magenta levels, the purplish / pink / lavender tones look just a tad strong, which provids a bit of an unnatural feel. Nothing as severe as in the pano, though.
I like the composition, with the repetitive shapes of the life guard cabins as primary subject. Well captured.
Cheers,
Hugo

I very much remember that movie Klaas . . . I saw it at a drive-in, which seems now to be a thing of the past here. Thanks for the comments . . . the mood here (despite appearances) was more of a quiet, even hollow, peacefulness. :)

Thanks Avi: I'm a painter myself (oil) . . . and I have dabbled in watercolors. They work VERY differently from oils but produce strikingly different results. You're right . . . this would make a good watercolor but difficult oil. For some reason the watercolors seem SO much more difficult to do. Perhaps because of the years I have done in oils . . . or perhaps because children often do better than me in that medium! :) Thanks for the comments.

Thanks Marco! I set out to get the sunset . . . but just couldn't do it. My wife managed very well somehow, but I wound up shooting the other way, by and large. It was still . . . as always . . . a good photo trip, though! Thanks for your comments!

Good composition Doyle, the sharp lifeguard station in front, and the one in the back to be swallowed by the fog in a few minutes so it seems. Do you remember the movie... The Fog? Very spooky mood. Take care,
Klaas

Excellent composition. The fog really puts the focus on the beach houses, and makes the noisy background dissappear. Composition and depth is great. Nice work.
