Stace, I just checked the original and that is how his hair is in that one too. So, it's not the editing that did it. The sun was directly in front of them about to go down behind the mountain, so I think it was just the brightness from the sun that did it.

even this one is fantastic: great lightness and very interesting point of view: maybe you can try it even in a square version, cutting a part of the grass at the bottom
