Wonderful image Art . . . I put up two attempts at portraiture for this project and still feel I'm missing something. The composition here, IMO, is outstanding and I think the result is phenomenonal. The lighting and tonal range is awesome and I very much like the natural look and pose.

This is a lovely portrait. There are so many strong points. Her gentle expression portrays her as being a kind person. Her pose and positioning provide the natural and flattering light. Framing by the curtains adds to the atmosphere. Choosing B&W was good as it really emphasizes the main subject. Details from the outside foliage are clear enough that we can see them but not distinct enough to draw our attention to them away from her. I find it quite beautiful. There is one part of your picture that I find distracting---the light section on the sitting shelf. The little white something and its refelction seems to be an uneccessary element. I think also, it is not a flattering highlight for her. For me, that triangular shape of lighted area should be darkened so it does not draw attention or be elliminated. The grating is not a problem. Now, all this, you must understand is coming for someone who knows nothing about portrait techniques. Art, I think you did a super job. It is grand. I really like it. I would be thrilled to have a portrait like this of my Mother.
