Alas I am still with a 2 year old camera - Sony V1 and it doesnot have RAW flexibility. May be I will still have to stay with Mutiple Exposure (Bracketting option) till I buy D200 :)

Thanks for your great suggession. Appreciate your help.

Thanks

Aurobindo,
If your camera can shoot in RAW, then Photoshop CS can do some wonderful things in extending the latitude of your exposures. You could put camera on tripod, and shoot a whole SERIES of images, from way under to way OVER exposed, highlight them all, and tell CS2 to "Open in HDRI" which then merges ALL that data into a single 64-bit image! It's very cool.

I see that a lot of people are mentioning the different exposure levels. I don't know your camera, but if it has the ability you may try using slow-sync flash (or fill flash) to brighten up the foreground for a slightly faster shutter time (which would reduce the washing of the distant hills). There are a lot of variables that will influence who that will work out, but if you get a little luck you can reduce exposure of the distant hills and increase exposure on the up-close rocks so they will both come closer to the exposure level of the middle foliage. (You may have to aim your flash or put something to block the flash so that the flash doesn't hit the falling water.)

Thanks Amir. After seeing the result in my computer I thought a better capture point might have been slight towards left and around one foot elevated. That would have given more green, more red rocks and less black in the picture.

Thanks for your kind appreciations

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your suggession, but the problem is the huge variation or the dynamic range in exposure reading. Its difficult to keep the dark rocks the distant mountain, the falls and the red rocks all in correct exposure. Camera has 5 stops, I bet I say that much better with my 12 stops eye :).

Thanks again

Hi Jim
Thanks for the sugession and trying this with a new frame. As a thumb of rule I go for either a white frame or a black one. May be a very thin black line and a broader white frame will also suit, but thanks to you for your appreciation.

What a beautiful composition. It really speaks to me. However, this must be the night of the distracting frame. I find the black frame keeps distracting my eyes from the shot. I pondered this one for quite a while. Finally I tried reframing your show with a color selected from within the picture itself (I hope you don't mind).

A little over-exposed in the far hills, but still a very serene moment nicely captured.
