hi mark... i had your email address but i cant find it. if you would be kind enough to send it to me i'll send you some ideas on china. in fact, i'm thinking of going up to yangshuo in the next week or so to try the 1-2 hour balloon rides over the area. that would be special.

James,
Thanks for looking at the latest images, and especially for sending me your comments. It has been a crazy year, and I have high hopes of creating more images and becoming more active on UF again ... although I think I am still a month or two away from achieving that goal, with my commitments over the coming weeks.
This was my first trip to China, and I was extremely impressed. I hope to return before too long. Your thoughts and recommendations on places to go and things to see, would be very welcomed. I think you have my e-maail address, if you have a few minutes to drop me a line.
Best regards,
Mark

hi mark, long time no see.

i've been to yangshuo and the li river several times and can attest to cloudy and rainy weather in summer. thats normal tho.

nice shot, and you did well to get this the way you did despite less than ideal conditions.

best wishes. james

I like the way you presented the peaks aline at the diagonals with the higest peak at the top most thus giving the an image to the viewer of a vertical climb, the intervening mist gives it very nicel provide a mysterious feeling of unseen dangers. Very nicely done Mark.

Paul,
I rather foolishly, made only simple attempts at protecting the camera. I had an extra T-Shirt in my backpack, that I used to cover it, while I was not shooting. Of course, the T-Shirt became completely soaked after a short time and was of little value from then on. At one point I feared I may have ruined the lens, as it appeared that water had gotten inside. Luckily, after a day of drying out, there was no permanent damage.

Wow.
How do you protect your camera in the rain?
This is beautiful, BTW.

Your blacks, in the bottom left especially, look a little bit flat, and theres some kinda grainy pixel stuff happening down there. Maybe a careful curves adjustment could bring your darks down to a nicer Dmax black and stretch the tonal range without screwing with the very nice tones in the rest of the image. I understand for the foggy feel it needs to be lighter overall. That's all digital stuff of course, the subject, composition, and colour filtration selection are all wonderful. Oh, actually, one other thing, I might crop in the right side just a little bit to get rid of that square of white in the bottom right corner. It's a bit distracting. Very nice overall though! Beautiful place...
