Hi, Ray - Yes, everyone is supposed to gain merit if they donate a small amount of rice and it's not unusual to have 100 people doing that. (Monks aren't supposed to eat after midday, though, so the food's energy has to last them a long time!)

This is where he is collecting his rice and I guess the size of the pot is symbolic and to enable everyone to contribute rice rather than his having an extremely large appetite. A good shot of a fascinating ritual. Well done Len...Cheers....Ray
