About Although I posted this picture a few days prior, I have now added it to the “Critiquers Corner”. I wasn’t sure how to address the disappointing white blur on the lower left-hand side of the image and am looking for suggestions and examples of things I can do beyond just cropping it out.

This is an incredible photograph, I guess the white blur it a bit dissapointing for you, but I think the power of the Cheetah's face over takes it and I don't really mind it.

I just add to the depth of field, it sees that you were in the weeds with the cheetah, it adds suspense and danger to the shot.

Thank you for your suggestions Jacob.

Certainly gives me a starting point to consider and this is one of the photos I really hope to improve once I am more comfortable with photo editing.

All the best,
Ed

Ed, another wonderful shot from your expedition. you continue to make me jealous!

As for the white blur in the lower right, I can only say maybe you could get rid of it in post-processing. Perhaps a mask with curves or levels, or play with blending modes. I'll give it a shot and see what I can come up with!

...brb...

Okay, just gave it a quick go in PS...played with levels and curves on a mask....kind of got rid of it. With more time, I'm sure you could do better!

Well done, and keep up the great work!

What an exquisite face, beautifully captured.

The detail just draws you right into the photo. I can well understand why this is one of your favourites.

Stunning shot Ed,
The bushes in front of him/her make the beauty of this supreme predator stand out even more.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your comment Dave.

I believe Lisa's comment was directed at the blurry whiteness in the lower right-hand corner of the shot. It was probably from my hand or strap or part of the truck, not much just enough to add a little white blur. It is considerably more noticeable in the original shot before any cropping.

All the best,
Ed

A wonderful shot of the cheetah, Ed! I much prefer the original, and don't find the white part objectionable at all. If he has white fur then he has white fur! The clarity and colours here are amazing!

Additional to Lisa:

Your comment really made me readdress the cropping and while I came up with a suitable crop to fit what you recommended, I still think I prefer the original.

Ed

Thank you for your comment Cathy.

He was actually watching a Thomson's gazelle that they ended up chasing (as seen in my chase shots) and catching that morning.

Amazing lighting! This is the same expression my domestic cats get on their faces when they come across something they don't recognise and are using their nose and their mouth to taste the air. It is such a beautiful portrait. I wish I was there. Cathy

Thank you for your comment Lisa.

You might want to check out Shirley Grove's portfolio as she has some great cheetah shots: http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/94211.html

I totally agree that the white blur is distracting and I hesitated to post this picture for that reason. However, it is one of my favourite shots I took the whole trip. I considered cropping as you suggested but didn't want to lose his ear.

All the best,
Ed

This would be every photographers dream to be able to capture these cats on a game reserve in Kenya.

Great image and wonderful sharp focus.

I'm not so sure about not cropping the right side of the image out of the photo with the white blur though.
