About Another attempt at a flower. My grandparents had these orange flowers on their balcony. I cropped this from the original. It's not as sharp as I had hoped but it's better than what I was taking before.

Carlen,
It might have been on a point and shoot mode, but there is a definite gradual softness change in focus from the centre outward. The Centre is quite sharp and the outside petals are a bit soft. That makes the image quite attractive in a lot of people's eyes!

Thank you... I feel bad because I honestly don't see the selective focusing that everyone else is seeing. (My camera was on a point and shoot mode)

Carlen,
From your About description, I have the feeling you didn't realize how good this image was. This kind of floral doesn't have to be completely sharp to be effective. You have it sharp in all the right places. That's what counts. The softness in other areas is actually a bonus in my eyes.
This is a really nice image!

I'm not sure if it's the same for your camera, but my step dad figured out that it's much more difficult to take macro shots with my camera because the sensor is not right next to the lens. It's a couple inches away on the camera. This makes a huge difference.

I was a bit miffed as to why he could take extreme close-ups with his sony from the 80's and they came out perfectly yet mine was blurred... well that's why.

I have trouble getting good sharpness in close-ups too, Carlen, so I can't help you. :( Someone who is very good at it told me to hold the shutter down even after you've clicked it, among other things. Like you, I'm getting better, but I've still not mastered it. :)

Still...nothing wrong with this one, despite the softness. The colors and forms are very nice, and I enjoy looking at it, and that's all I care about. ;)

Take care!
Gayle :)

OOOh AAAHH WOW ! Georgous Carlen ! I like the top portion a bit faded meaning not as sharply detailed. It gives it a softer look and the darker detailed bottom portion ties it all in very nicely.
Well done !
Michele~

It is gorgeous. The warmth of the colour. And the textures of each petal- beautiful.

Stan had a point Carlen . . . Tripods REALLY help here . . . as well as a wind break! BUT . . . and I mean this . . . But -- this is a great image! Wonderfully rich and well saturated orange and yellows make this a very warm and lovely composition. Normally, I could complain about the centralized subject material, but it seems to work for you in this shot . . . still . . . I'd make sure to get future shots off-balance to add tension to avoid more or less static shots.
Well done Carlen!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Well done!

Carlen, when you are looking for perfection, then all possible reasons are against you, including slight wind. These super macro images are extremly challenging. You need heavy tripod, but absolutelly calm weather, since slight air movement will move tender flower during your 1/10 or 1/30 sec.
Setup your camera on tripod and use remote release during calm moment.

The close up here and getting so deep into this lovely flower, itself is a very great job, the centre of the image is sharp and that’s where the eye get attracted to, while the rest of the image add a great effect of blurred colors to complete the beauty of this capture, I really enjoyed this work and I do wish you all of the best
