Hi John, the area where I took this photo is in western Sichuan province, not too far from the border with Tibet. This area is a part of Greater Tibet, and right now much of it is closed off entirely to foreigners and news reporters because of the trouble going on inside Tibet itself.

very nice shot, I think I have seen these things well... at movies and documanters of course, nice shot and 'use' of the hand at the corner of the image and very strong - different subject!

This is a lovely shot - sharp where it needs to be. Excellent.
The only thing I would suggest is perhaps a simple frame to hold it in (eg. single pixel black plus single pixel white plus 5-10 pixel black).

nice shot James. good use of DOF. Also composition is superb. In fact I did not know that there were Tibetan people living in Sichuan region, close to Chengdu. nice portfolia BTW.

The way you captured it makes the essence of those prayers visible. Concentration and contemplation for itself instead for some kind of universal cop above us. Since there is no visible person but only one hand that is so well focused and separated from the background, one doesn't have the feeling of some distinct human being with some special religion or belief, but rather of the very depth of concentrated thinking itself.
