About A near perfect example of an American Icon. 55 Chevy Bel-air. This is a four door, unlike the tudor coupe in the film "Two Lane Blacktop" I liked the title anyway.
Taken last Friday at a local cruise night get together.

Thanks Leo,
I have a lot of other Automotive subject matter in my portfolio in the "Cars and Drivers" section, if you wish to take a look when you have time.

Hi Marcus,
One of the reasons I put this one up was because I watched the classic movie "Two Lane Black-top" the night before I went to the cruise night for some shots.
One of the stars of the movie is a flat black 55 Chevy coupe. The car is driven by James Taylor and Dennis Wilson (Beach Boys) The other star of the movie is a 71 Pontiac GTO driven by Warren Oates. A very nostalgic film for me now! Sort of along the lines of "Easy Rider"

Anyway, yes this one is a beauty! And it is almost the same kind of car that I have in some of my vintage posts from the early seventies. (The ones with my brother in them)

Hi andre, Glad to hear all is well, you know i could not pass up this classic 55 chevy, the perspecitve and slightly dark lighting are excellent and really enhance the classic auto, excellent, my pops had a 56 that I hardly remember but what I would do to have it now.....

Thanks James,
I always say, It's no where near as difficult to take a few nice images of these cars, as it is to rebuild one of these beauties!

Thanks Thilo,
I enjoy shooting these old classics. Restored or wrecks, it doesn't matter. They all make great images :)
A lot of the old car nuts gather at a local Auto parts store near here every Friday night to tell tales about their cars and show them off. That's where this image was taken.

Hi Kes,
Funny you should mention the white area around the rear fender. That was one of the things I didn't really like about this one. Same goes for the roof line. But, if you are going to say positive things about those areas, I might have to change my mind and say I did it on purpose :)

Thanks Jon,
You are absolutely correct about the car on the right. I was going to attempt to clone it out, but when I converted to this toned version, it wasn't so much of a factor.
I do have the shadow under the car a little on the dark side. I could have had a bit more detail, but I loved the way the shadow blended with the road the way it is. What bothered me more was that I couldn't seem to get much detail around the white roof line and tail section due to glare. Over-all I'm pretty happy with it :)

Thanks for the great comment Ray!
I agree about the mono being the right choice for this one, even though the car looks great in colour. But, as someone else mentioned, the red car beside the main subject distracts much more in colour. I guess this is an example of how we can make the greyscale work to our advantage, rather than dissadvantage.

Yes, it was a great race! Button deserved the win. It seems they finally got everything right.
I've been an F1 fan for as long as I can remember. I was crazy about slot cars in the early sixties. I could name quite a few heroes going back quite a few years. I still have a lot of un-posted images from races in the late sixties and early seventies.
See you later, when you return.

Hi Andre, Excellent shot/car! I like the white area on the rear fender...tricks my eye into trying to look through the fender. The B&W mutes the red nicely.

I'll try to get around to catching up...some...sometime!

Best regards,
Kes

Very nice. I much prefer the b&w - the red car parked next to it distracts in the colour. The tonal range seems just about perfect and the contrast is just right to give it that little bit of "pop". I might like a hair more detail under the car, but what I see on my monitor might not be exactly what you see on yours. Nice car, great shot.

A wonderful conversion to mono tones of this classic beauty of a vehicle my dear Andre and it looks so right in monochrome. It was great to see the colour version as well and that is also good my friend but the main post was the right choice. I read in amongst the comments that you enjoy F1....did you see the Hungarian yesterday? Full of excitement and incident and about time Button won a race:):) My very best wishes to you my friend, as always.....Ray

Thanks Toshi,
I'm about the same as you when it comes to cars... I know a little bit about a lot of them... but not a lot about any of them :) I've always leaned towards European sports cars. Racing, street and F1.
This shot was one of those real easy conversions, where everything looked pretty good right of the bat.

Thanks Jim,
This is nostalgic for me too. These cars bring back memories of standing on street corners at 10 years old and being able to name every make and model that drove by :)

I must admit I don't know much about classic American cars but I appreciate cars in general and you've captured this Chevy really well Andre. Perfect angle to show off it's beautiful lines and the B&W conversion enhances the feel to it. Very nice work.

Hi Rashed,
Thanks for the comment on this one. This one converted to B&W very easily. Sometimes it just works out that way.

Excellent capture, Andre, and the b/w is perfect for this, although I imagine the colour version is very good, too.
