Having spent a few moments to view your submissions, this one particularly caught my eye... maybe is is the subject that tells me it is time to make a pot... and enjoy the rest... or simply the simplicity... Thank you

Ann, i will echo Maggie's comments on lighting.. You must be using Digital Camera, and under tungsten lighting conditions the proper white balance will be missing and your colors will be off. So you may want to check your manual and look for tungsten light settings, or select Auto settings. Either way, using Auto Levels in photoshop actually corrects any color discoloration. If you see my "golden gate bridge in fog", that has a blue color filter. When i applied Auto Levels in PS, the blue ness went away and i got an output devoid of filters.. But i did not apply auto levels anyway, as i wanted the blue ness to that shot..
your composition and idea is nice, except for the lighting color cast..

Hi Ann... you havent put any information on the lighting you used here...i am assuming by the yellow cast that you used a regular light bulb and not studio lighting or hot lights.
If you plan to do alot of tabletops you would be wise to purchase, or buy second hand, one hotlight and get some white card to use as reflectors to bounce light back into your subject from your main light source.
In this image your main light source is coming in from the upper part of your image and creating hot area there and deep shadows at the front. You need to bounce some of that light back into your set from the front. You are best to light this image from the side where you have the orange slices and have a big white card close to the mug on the opposite side.
Play around with your lighting. Reflectors can be white card, silver or gold reflectors depending on the final results you are after. Have fun and experiment....welcome to Usefilm... *smile*.. Maggie
