What a nice sense of pride he has. Nice clear image and cropped perfectly. I think that the DOF is great for this image as well.

Thanks Mike . . . Haven't been getting UF E-Mail for about a week but be aware that I appreciate your comments. By the way . . . I like the leash here . . . it seems appropriate . . . but many - like yourself - do not. Different strokes, I guess! :)

Thanks Gayle....we have Pembroke Welsh Corgis -- http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1096566 They are the HIGH energy dogs and never cease to be active unless they're sleeping. The distinction is minor . . . Pembrokes have no tails and a fox-ish face, front feet pointing slightly outward...their ears tend to be more up. The other is a cadigan (with a tail) and is a couch potato . . . ready to sit with you and watch tv all evening. Squared heads, slightly larger, frontward pointed feet and ears more to the sides.
Best wishes!

No, I don't disagree with you - it's just another way to look at it, in "my" perfect world. I always like the tightest crop possible when the background isn't important and you have a primary (and most handsome!)subject like this one. Of course there are always exceptions to every rule. I do like the style of the leash, and no, I wouldn't clone it out either.
Well, they say poodles don't shed, but he sure does leave black puffs of something all around on occasion! :) So you have corgies? I'm not that familiar with the breed, although my neighbor used to have one. Aren't there two types? I remember Pembroke, but the other one escapes me.
Take care, Gayle

Gayle: Thanks so much for the critique. I'll agree with you about more of the dog at the bottom and agree to disagree about less headroom . . . just feel like it gives it more dynamism and less centrality I think . . . though I do love to hear what others really think. The leash was unavoidable in this setting and while I agree it would have been nicely absent . . . I didn't think PS cloning it out was a good idea at all. And, helping out is the fact that the leash is distinctive, unique and interesting.
Naturally your instincts as to the positives in this shot are very well honed indeed! ;)
Aha . . . another dog lover . . . and the poodle doesn't shed so . . . well . . . it could have been worse. Thanks again for critiquing and commenting!!

Nice guess Mary but (Uhnnnnnnn!) wrongo! The dog's not ours and is watching his handler who apparently has doggie snacks in his pocket and has been absentmindedly tossing them to him from time to time. Patient, proud and a champion.

Critiquers Corner, huh? Ok, let's see. Yes, I would like to see more of the dog at the bottom, and less space at the top. At least enough to see the entire ear and collar. The leash bothers me a little, although I know leashes are good,as they help keep them safe!
Positives: Wonderful view of a noble head and expression of love and dedication! Good use of dof also.
I have two dogs - a standard poodle and a collie. I wish I had a short-haired breed like this one around this time of year. Toby (the collie) is shedding like crazy. I love him anyway. :) Thanks for the smiles! Gayle

Thanks John . . . That's because to this friend there IS nobody better looking . . . the eyes sparkle when they see you! Got me on the ear though . . . but just by a hair. Ideally . . . I would have preferred the width of the leash under the ear at a minimum . . .

Oh yes, and she won't change her mind if she finds someone better looking or with a bigger wallet...
An excellent shot, with perfect detail in the dog and the leash against a colourful and perfectly abstract background.
But you just lost the bottom of the ear...

Yes, you've captured that look of devotion so well!
"There are times when only a dog will do For a friend -- when you're beaten, sick and blue, And the world's all wrong; for he won't care If you break and cry, or grouch and swear; For he'll let you know as he licks your hands That he's downright sorry -- and understands."

Thanks Annemette!! We had a great time but as we were on the show committee and worked closely with the judges, showing our corgis would have given the appearance of impropriety which we wouldn't want. Lot of work but a lot of great people. Give your mother's computer two aspirin, quit using the CD drive as a cup holder . . . and it'll get better!! :)

Oh yes, I know exactly what you mean, Doyle! A dog is always so loyal and even tempered, always pleased to see you, to accompany you and even defend you with its life if neccessary. Of course dogs and humans canīt be compared, but it can be hard not to. Lord Byron had a newfoundlanddog like I do, and he wrote a stunning memorial for his dog when it died. I can relate to every word in his poems concerning his dog. A beautiful expressive dogportrait of a pointer! Sorry for not being so active commenting these days, but Iīm at my motherīs place, and her computer doesnīt work well. One of these vira I think - at least the pc doesnīt sneeze... Take care, Annemette
