Perhaps it is my mood but I stared at the photo for a long while without prejudice of the title or statements of others to bias my preception.
the low light => dark shades give a restful, sombre aspect to the scene while the eyes closed but not clinched shut adds a feeling of peace or at rest to the emotions. the pursing of the lips give an aspect of pouting or discomfort in the atmosphere.
Yes, I can sense a sadness. The calm acceptance of the situation which is not a favorable resolution.
