About
Permission granted to burn this hand printed photo (one of many to get it right). Needed to test a camera before an important shoot. This concept came to me and has won me a few small awards.
I like you inquisitive mind, Alex! And I am an honest person. Yes, this is a straight shot. Yes, I was testing a camera. No, I was not mad at him. He is a good friend and encouraged me to be as creative as I wished by literally arranging the leaves and flower around a print I had made in the darkroom that I was not satisfied with. (One day i will post the print i was happy with, which also won me awards...)
I actually burnt more than one "badly" printed image in order to get this shot. The title "Old Flame" is an expression we use meaning "past lover", which was the feeling I wished to portray in this image. Even when I need to test a camera in a hurry, I prefer to shoot something that might be "interesting". The inspiration came and i acted upon it.
Thank you again for your comments and questions. One of your questions is fascinating to me, as I find it diffucult to "step away" from that which I have created. So how would I comment on this image (had I not been the maker) and seen it for the first time? At this moment, I cannot say! But thank you for making me think!
Ok, I'm used to you making strrait shots. Is this the case, too? Have you arranged all those leaves there? Have you lit up the photo? Yes, it does create a feeling... Of what, hmm.. I can think of many possibilities... Ex husband, late father, high school professor... Were you mad on him? Did you want to end painfull memories by destroying this face and changed your mind in the last minute? Come on, don't tell us it was only a test. If you had seen it for the first time, how would you comment it?
Oh Mary!~ Brilliant? You honestly are too kind to me. I love your interpretation of this image that really did come to me as a sudden inspiration. And I agree, it is a postive thing, and the gent in the photo is still a very good friend of mine!
So it should win awards it is brilliant! I love ideas like this. And the strength of it. I see two mouths and a cold face disappearing amid such warmth- positive thing!
Thank you so much. I am very new to this site, but I will find my way around eventually. You are most generous with your comment on this image. Warmest Wishes, Aniko :)
