Alessandro: Thank you for your gracious remarks. The lens is an f/4 so it would not be possible to use f/2.8. A faster shutter speed darkens the background without affecting the bird which is lit with a Speedlite flash. ISO 400 tends to introduce more noise into the photograph. If you will look at some of my other hummingbird photographs you will see some examples of the techniques you are suggesting, that is faster shutter speeds and higher ISO settings.

Wow! Beautiful shot..well taken! Why you've not used a larger aperture like 2.8 and a faster shutter? Probably with ISO like 400 or more and a faster shutter the wings would have been more blocked..just my thought.. I love the colors and the details on its head.. Ciao, Ale
