This amusement park is located opposite the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House on the Harbour. Initially a construction site for the construction of the Harbour Bridge, it was developed in 1935 as a theme park which was very popular particularly during WW II and especially with the AMERICAN Servicemen. The original rides were relocated from an existing Fair at GLENELG in Sth Australia and the face was modelled on the Nursery Rhyme 'Old King Cole'. In 1979 there was a death on the 'Big Dipper' and a major FIRE on the 'Ghost Train' which, together with other forms of entertainment, led to the subsequent poor oatronage and general decline of this Grand old Park
Tis funny you should say that, because I thought the same, but during the hey-day, you had to Q for 'hours' to get on the popular rides. Thank you for your comment, Jan.
