On my birthday we went to the tulip fields, I hadn't been there in 14 years, but it's where I inadvertantly spent my 16th birthday, on an outing when I was hospitilized for depression, self mutilation and suicidal behaviors... I remember, never having been much of a flower person, how awestruck I was at the sight of all those flowers, as far as the eye could see. For my 30th birthday I returned, spring came early this year and the tulips were starting to die away. This one was my favorite, the shape of it's petals reminded me of a heart, tattered around the edges, but with life bearing seeds in the heart of it, it will die, but pass along the gift of beauty. Duotoned in photoshop, no other adjustments made.
