A D80... you will have a better camera than I. I expect to see a number of great shots coming off of that purchase. I'll be sure to ask for a full product review.

Stunning detail, Michael...I can almost feel its fur, and the texture of its wings. Marvelous!

Hey, did I mention? I've ordered a Nikon D80...should have it in hand in a few weeks (it's back-ordered). Who knows...I may actually take images of something other than 'light painting'! *grin*

Hey, u did an excellent job with the crop! The light through the wings is so cool, well done. I did notice the hot spots, but its not too distracting.

Nice detail and good crop. BTW I did not notice the over exposed flower until I read about it in the previous comments.

Joel:

Not as fast as an F-18, but sometimes just as difficult with a 50 mm manual macro lens. The highlight - what can I say, direct sunlight in Kansas is hell to meter.

Howdy Michael,
Very nice, and intimate capture. The tight composition is very nice, and adds to the tight confined feel of this moment.

The one eye-pulling element, is the flower on the top left. It's so blown out that is upstages the butterfly's face, and forces the balance of the image to his outer image right wing. I bet if you either painted out, or pulled in a 2-stop down version of the same flower, the balance would center around the little guys' eyes.

Man.. you guys get some freaky lookin' butterflies in your parts! ;)

Outstanding capture... I can appreciate this, as I sat on a bench on my patio for 3 hours yesterday waiting for humming birds to feed. Consumed more beer than images.

catch ya later!

cheers,
-Joel
