Wow Ikea, been there done that. Pass me that apple again. BTW, Michael is right. This is the one that should have won an award. Your best in the series. Really nice to have a spot to sit back and shoot unobstructed. The Toronto Zoo is an amazing complex but I still find it hard to get unobstructed shots. Regards Ron.

Wow... Ron, 1976... I think that was the last time I was there as well! ....seriously.
It has changed a great deal. it's like SUPER ZOO now. ..but if you do go again, be sure to take the 30min drive north to the San Diego Wild Life Park...it's like a zoo without cages. that's where I got all of these Ape shots. It's part of the Zoo, but more laid back, and the animals seem to be more relaxed with captivity.
cheers buddy. Off to Ikea... hows that for bored.

His hands do make the shot, you are so right. They are huge. I was at the San Diego Zoo in 1976. What an amazing place. Very nice series in B&W Joel.

That's incredible. The only thing he misses is a newspaper and cup of coffee in front of him...looks like he was thinking something sitting outside a pub... and well, you're right those giant hands made the pose really strong. I also like very much you b&w choice. Another wonderful capture. Davide.

howdy michael!
dude... thanks so much for the shout out! appreciate it very much!
I decided that *all* of my new Zoo animals are going to be in b/w. I learned a powerful lesson in reading about Alfred Eisenstaedt after seeing a gallery of his work in San Diego. (blown away by his body of work, and seeing his own prints from his original neg).
b/w pulls drama from angle of light..the texture and shape are stronger players in the overall image. A new lesson to keep learning for me! The color is now more important in shades for the conversion.
cheers Michael. very kind words my friend. i'm off to setup pictures of my new Agave cactus to the sunset that's a few hours away. ....b/w....

howdy Alex,
The picture was taken at 4:45pm. their was a canopy of trees that painted one section of the Ape complex with a wondeful cucoloris of shadows and light. The other end was in teh wide open, and sun blasting staight in, with no clouds. I started to take pics of the Apes in shade, but the contrast was getting too lost in the exposure. I waited for about 5 minutes, and no change.. so about the time I faced back to the east, this Ape took a walk to a rock, and just watched fools like me.
For the most part... it's the perfect place to see these guys...better than the Zoo, as they are all wide out in the open...like you're not even at a park. it's wonderful! ..FULL sun...polarizing filter..stop as slow as you can go! ....thank you Mr. Weston for that lesson!
I rolled off *many* pics, and didn't bracket that much. just keep on shooting w/ the IS on, as I've noticed lots of blur in the images that i just shoot a single shot with. glad decided to buy a 4g card!!
cheers Alex. hope you got away this weekend.

This should have been awareded. I think people don't wait for all the series to go up before making a decision.
------------------
I think the technical components are straight up what I expect - balanced, crisp focus, good framing. It's the expression and attitude that sells this one as a winner.
------------------
I like looking at your posts because we seem to veer off in such strange and different directions. You went for B+W crisp shots at the zoo. I went for a walk and blew autumn color into abstraction.
Call anytime.

Another Great Picture Joel!
What can you tell us about the lighting scenario at the park. All your shots have a wonderfull soft diffused light.
Perfect Zone System Exposure!
