About
My day job meets my hobby.
having just completed a 3d Stereo feature, my brother passes on to me a camera that was once our grandfathers, who passed away 6 years ago. I guess it just dawned on my brother what it was that I've been doing for the last year of life.
So, now on vacation, trying to let go of the stress of last year, and making a 3d stereo movie.. and a new (to me) stereo 3d camera from 1965 falls into my lap.
No sooner had it been handed to me, where my brother an I on our way to get a roll of film. Yes, it works, and amazing well I might add, but you need a stereo viewer to take in all of the glory of what the images are that you'll develop. At work, I use a Wheatstone viewer, that allows you too see two images side by side as one. ..like a trick to get you to cross your eyes without crossing them.
So, the camera has today been the subject to my shooting b/w Ilford film. This time around, trying out the Ilford Panf Plus 50.
Lighting is a window, with indirect sunset/sunlight at 5pm, facing south. two bounce cards, and one cut card to add interest into the reflections.
The exposure was 45 seconds, and in retrospect, should of back off a 5 seconds earlier, looking at those hot spots. ISO50.. woah.... a whole new world.
They're fun!!! I just finished converting a movie to 3D stereo, and so this was the perfect tool to play around with! I would like to build a digital one.. for now, I just use two cell phones! :) ilford.. ISO50 on this one! super fine/tight grain! cheers, -j
yeah... i figure, another 10 more rolls, and I'm going to be crawling back to my 20D like it's the long tall drink of water I should have not once left alone.
But...i am having fun, and thats more than I felt when I learned how to develop, some 25 years ago!
I prefer Ilford film, but maybe that was because I was always breaking open those packs of 100 paper prints.\ Admirable job here going back to film. I'm too lazy.
thanks Joel, her is the site I will put it on, http://www.hillscameraclub.org.au/news_details.php?id=159. This looks like a great camera and I would love to get one, a search on ebay maybe.
You betcha! As long as there is photo credit, it would be my pleasure to let you use the image!
Are you showing 3D stereo images? Ya know, I just devised and supervised the new 'The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D Stereo'! I've become a 3D stereo freak! Would love to see some of the images your club has!
was thinkin the same thing.... done correctly, a double could look very nice if the geometry of the image is balanced so that it looks mirrored... be very cool!
Here is a picture from that first roll through the camera since 1965. I had to fine tune in PS, the vertical level of the images to match perfectly so there would not be any strain in the stereo effect.
it's tough, if you're the subject, to know what lens to stare into, as it's not clear to have them look at the viewfinder, hense, my brother looking down the gun of the right eye, and the left eye, catching him in the act.
it's the little things, but the effect is awesome! (if you have a stereo viewer...or if can cross your eyes like a circus clown)
