Doyle, again thanks for taking the time to provide such detailed advice. I see what you mean about the cropping and I agree, it does improve the composition to lose the hand and the leg. Annie is a really sweet natured dog, I will pass your compliments on to her.

Hi Maryanne . . . a tough challenge to get the black from this guy without losing all of the details in a sea of inky blackness . . . certainly a good time to get familiar with those histograms. You did a good job of keeping the details so the exposure seems very well done indeed! To my eye, though, I think the composition is a little static and I am thinking the centralized subject is likely the cause. Off-center compositions are just naturally more dynamic . . . besides, the hand and leg on the right don't really add anything to the shot (IMO). That being said, I have looked at a closer right side crop so that Annie here will be glancing into (and not out of) the composition. That look is attached for your consideration. :) Otherwise . . . Cute pup!

Hi Roger. Even though I think Annie looks pretty cute in that hat, all the politics is ruining our Labor Day parade. Used to be high school marching bands, boy and girl scouts, and a few rock bands on platform trucks. Now its full of politicians.

Thanks. Since Annie is a black lab (probably mixed with some hound) she is shiny and often hard to photograph. But I though this one turned out well.
