Thanks for the comment J . . . appreciate the comment and you're right about the aperture change giving a deeper DOF. But I shot this FOR the Minimal DOF Project so I was trying to get as shallow as I could with Focus on the eye . . . luckily, no lens was injured in the making of this photo! LoL!

WOW!!!!! That little bird looks like wants to eat your lens! hahaha!!! Great image Doyle, very lovely, well taken! ....could be a bit smaller apperture (f/11 or even f/16) so the focused area could be a bit bigger but anyway not something bad, for me a very worthy try and that takes the 7! Best wishes!

"So, you thought you could get rid of ME did you...come on then, get your nose a little closer, let me give you a loving kisssssss.. "
That . . . uhhhhhhhhh . . . well it was . . . uhhhhh . . . sorta' like you . . . uhhhhhhh . . . the bird . . . . ummmmm . . . you WERE speakin' for the bird, huh? Just to be clear. I have absolutely nothing against friendly guys . . . but ....ummmm . . . my vine doesn't swing from that tree, know what I mean?
BWA HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA . . . You walk INTO that one my friend!!

Thanks Ray . . . you're probably right . . . natural flight conditions in an outdoor aviary probably would be better than some cages bird owners employ . . . though, to be fair, many people really do provide exercise and out of cage time to their loved birds. Not to mention fresh vegetables and seed. The larger, more domesticated (or intelligent) birds have that opportunity where finches and waxbills simply must stay inside the cages. Yep . . . he's likely glad! :)

Thanks Sal!! Yep . . . my first pet bird and now I have about 20 breeders . . . still as much fun . . . but a bit louder now! My first was typical colors . . . but I've had cinnanomon, pied, white-face, lutino . . . you name it. Inside (like with people) they're really all the same!! :)

Fabulous close in study of this cockatiel with awesome razor sharp details Doyle and gorgeous colour tones. The shallow dof is superb and the pof is spot on my friend. Well done to you and I am sure the little dickie bird is pleased to be back home with you. Cheers to you Doyle......Ray;)

Hey thanks very much Marcus. I wanted focal clarity on that all iimportant eye . . . and a very shallow DOF. An experiment for the minimal DOF project . . .
Having seen your comment about wildlife projects (or lack thereof) in the forum . . . I think you explained it better there than I've seen yet -- and I do relate to it. Whether it will change we'll see . . . but nothing happens too fast at any rate!
Thanks for commenting . . . it's not a bird of prey . . . but at least I can round one up! :)

Thanks Michele . . . the key with animal shots (IMO) is to get the focus on the eye if you want to capture the animal. Not necessary, of course, if the idea is to capture, say for example, feather texture or something else . . . but for the animal (and people for the most part) . . . I feel like the eye is essential! :)

very nice close up Doyle, the crop and perspective are very appealing and original, love the colors and nice pose. seems the pof was around the eyes with a quick drop off in dof, very intresting choice, but effective..
