hi doyle, sorry, my referance to the ND filter was for your future IR in bright sunshine & lots of foilage, its a (x4) ND subdues intense light in skiing & beach scenes, also useful to reduce shutter speed & depth of field,. you could also use a plain red filter with the R72,. how to compose, lol, nobody said it was going to be easy, this is definatly the tricky bit, well you answered your own question, its hard manual labour all the way doyle, tehe, there is an easy way if you want the next best, in elements 5, there is an IR effect,. but if you get the bug for IR i think you will struggle on,tehe, the rewards will be very satisfing ,.its proberbly best for you to ask a more experianced shooter in IR, i havnt a clue what i'm talking about, lol,. i for one will follow your progress, i might learn something, tehe,. all the best doyle,. catch you up soon, regards art,.

Hey Avi . . . I just went to check and I found the one you refer to - this was rendered into B&W from Infra Red . . . . I liked the long shadows and sloping lawns. But they do seem a tad similar . . . one has headstones and one has books . . . LoL! :)

Doyle I <~~~~~~

Hi Art!! Been awhile my friend! Unless the ND filter is graduated the overall effect would be unchanged so I assume you are referring to a graduated ND filter - ?

The tree issue is not a photographic one . . . the tree itself has varied bark issues and I think that's what you see. As to the lamp . . . all I can say is ARRRRRGH! Of course you're right! Stupid 20/20 hindsight kicks in and until you mentioned it I hadn't seen it. Even after you mentioned it, I had to scroll back and look (thinking you were referring to the second lamp by the back tree.

NOW . . . I do have a question. How do you compose? The Hoya IR 72 filter is soooooo dark that I cannot see through the lens in bright light with the filter on. Compose THEN add filter? There's gotta be an easier way.

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

seasons greetings doyle, yes i'm on serious catchup mode, lol, time fly's,. this cought my eye doyle, very nice capture, something about IR's gets my attention,. i tried this in 08/05,. was very pleased with results, have 3 on here,. you might like to know that peter de rycke offered good advice to me at the time, he recomended useing a neutral density filter with the IR filter, helps prevent burnout area's in bright long exposures, i think, lol,. just passing on, might come in handy,. much regards art,. sorry just been back for another look, noticed that differance in tone on the tree nearest half way up trunk, ? oh what the hell while i'm here, lol,. i would have cropped the lamp, far right,. tehe,. all the best doyle,. ENJOY,.

Thanks Joice . . . and surprise . . . but the only PS besides the frame and minor adjustments in light and contrast is the conversion to B&W. This was shot pretty much as-is with an infraRed filter and not even cropped or leveled! Thanks again!

Doyle... This has that eerie feel as in when we have an eclipse... The tones and shadows are luminous... a slight sepia/olive tone to right hand sky and background foliage and then that soft blue/grey...

You are going to have fun experimenting with that filter... ~~GRIN~~...

Thanks Nessa . . . a park like setting used by the few who still travel to a library and sit under the trees to read a book. Myself . . . I'd rather buy a book and read it at home . . . or . . . better yet . . . at work! LoL! But there is a tranquil feeling and it does remind me of being a college student!

Hi Khalid!

First - thanks very much for taking the time to place a comment . . . I like that very much. Clearly it was nice . . . but I'm not sure what was meant by the photoart comment. In case it is unclear . . . this is not a PS work nor is it photo art. In fact . . . it is not even cropped! It is an infrared filtered shot that has been converted to black and white and adjusted for light as needed by the conversion. Again . . . thanks for the nice comment . . . I'm just mentioning this in case there is confusion by you or others who read through these comments! :)

Thanks Michele . . . just learning on the new Infrared filter and it looks like it's going to be very interesting. Was shooting for tranquil more than documentary or dramtic but I certainly see your point now that it's been said. :)

Intersting shadows of crocked tree's on this library lawn.. I can hear the ghost of the students who crossed this path .. ha ! Just kidding .. It looks more documentary rather than dramatic.. and I like it !!
