Such natural patterns are a very usual "target" for many photographers but there are much less photos that capture them in such a nice way. And this is one nice example of such a nicely captured natural form
The composition is quite extraordinary as it almost divides the photo in quartes, 3 of which carry the patterns of the black spots, and one of which is rather "empty". A really refreshing way to compose. According to this the darke curves/spots at the upper left part are a bit "against composition", but this is not really much. The tonal range is very well balanced and depicts very clearly the highlights and the shadows. Only in the center of the image there is a small region of slight unclarity - was that part covered with water? If so, then I think that a stronger enhancement of the textures/contrasts of the water to the rock would add another strong note to the image.

Very intriguing, dear Christine & beautifully open to many associations. Mine, being an MD is, of course, a microscopic view of a tiny bloos-vessel filled with floating blood-cells, but that's just me. It's a lovely photo anyway you look at it.
