I understand what you mean by the "fewer variables", Shyamal. It is a main aim to make those variables more and achieve the own style, the own character of photography as the time passes by, even when sitting in front of a computer for too long. ;-)

The photo forum is the place for such an interaction, provided the members of such a forum are willing to interact, which I must unfortunately admit that I don't really see by most of the members most of the time in UF. The amount of comments, discussions, mind exchange is completely inisgnificant compared to the the countless nonsensical "comments" of two lines. A pity since we do have the means to do such an exchange all over the world, and we use it most of teh time to just say "wow, a great image". Which of course doesn't bring anything else than fulfilling the "duty" to say something good about an image in thee expectation to receive a something good in return. That's unfortunately most of teh interaction here, but as I still want to be optimistic, I hope that there will be more and more interested people like you, who really have to say something about photography.

All the best,

Nick

Of course, I agree completely. One of the things that excites me very much about photography is the ability for many people to view the exact same thing in the same context. That is to say, we can all go to the same place, and view a scene, but we will all see it differently for so many reasons, maybe one person is not feeling well, maybe someone's shoes are uncomfortable, maybe someone's friend passed away nearby, every one has different translations of a situation. However, a photograph of that scene gives less room to play, all the more a photograph on the internet (vs a museum maybe) where I can assume we are all sitting on a chair in front of out computers, there are fewer variables within ourselves.

What I am getting at it this: Now the photograph is everything, how we experience it, what it says to us, what it invokes in us, and the different things it says to each of us, is what is extraordinary. What better place than a forum for such interaction?

Shyamal, I just try to say perhaps something more than the usual nonsensical oneliners, because I have to stand with a little more respect in front of the work of other people instead of simply saying "wow, great!", because I also learn a lot myself this way, and because I can only hope for some more mind exchange than the already mentioned oneliners could ever cause. After all this should be a photo forum and not a forum for supporting each other's egos by tapping on each other's shoulders. ;-)

And of course because such good images really invite one to comment them with enthusiasm and dedication. So it is the image that causes the comment when it clearly deserves to be noticed, like this one does.

Cheers,

Nick

Nick, once again thank you very much for your comments. I appreciate the detail you go into when you talk about my pictures, that is what I really need to keep learning, and it is great to hear what someone else sees in an image.

Simply perfect exposure and that under a weaker light! But it is exactly that light that adds so much to the atmosphere!

I must stand stunned in front of such a perfect sellective focus and exposure of the main actor, that separates him/her form the scene, and at the same time preserves the recognizability of the scene! This way the seagull gets character - it seems to reflect on something, and this wouldn't be noticable at all under a less perfect exposure!

Congratulations and keeü it up!

The contrast between the very detailed gull and the background is very intriguing, Shyamal! A very nice moment to capture!

Best wishes,

Nick
