About I have tried this technique before, but this actually worked. I centered the AF on the yellow hydrant, then locked the focus and recentered the image to center the mirror. I was suprised to see that the image in the mirror was as in focus as the background behind the mirror. Onlt the mirror housing is out of focus. I am pleased the way this one turned out.

Brad, Check this pic out - it appears your idea has taken off else where!

Matt, thanks for the comments. I agree with everything you are saying, and the feeling, after reading your CIA comment, I agree, and it does seem a bit "stalkerish." Unfortunatly, there are few places to get the "dusty" road or cliff in KY. Getting out of the car, readjusting the mirror so that the mirror image and background are on the same horizon would be much better...

Again, thanks for your comments.

Brad,

Having policed your comments (see notes on your forum question) I've decided this photo in your portfolio is worth my comments. The picture as a photo is very dull. This content is unimaginative. As far a feeling goes I would place myslelf in your car as a CIA detective stalking the parking lot. This is an interesting 'technique' to try and achieve, but perhaps take yourself out somewhere to practice. I would imagine a long winding dusty road with the sun setting would be great. Titled - when road trips come to an end! Or perhaps park up on a cliff top then shoot in land but get the coast in too! On a techinical note the shot does appear nice and sharp in the mirror.

Finn, thanks for the comments. I appreciate every one of them. However, the focus was as I wanted. I only wanted the mirror housing to be blurred. I was trying to make it appear that I was looking through the background, to the other side of the bush.

M. Beltran - Thanks, and this is the latest in my trials with using the car mirror. It really makes it easy to get images like this. I am going to move on to using compact mirrors more, seeing what I can come up with...

A very original concept,i like it a lot,the focus is very good at the mirror,i think you could make this shot even better by blurring the backgrund, only an idea! Regards

I like the concept of different planes of reality shown in one visual plane. It's even better when the technical concerns have been met. I would suggest continuing this into a project, with subject matter both in the mirror and in the background.
